Did you know that it has been estimated that most people think between 12,000-70,000 thoughts per day? Don’t ask me how they figured it out, but just trust me – it’s a lot of thoughts. A lot more than you’d guess.
If you have a basic understanding of Quantum Physics, you will know that our thoughts have a huge impact on our physical reality.
HypnoBirthing hinges on the law of the mind which states that for every thought there is a corresponding physical reaction. In other words, ‘where the mind goes, the body follows’.
We become what we think about.
The thing about those 12,000-70,000 thoughts is this: About 90% of those thoughts are the same exact thoughts we thought yesterday. And every day. Day in and day out. Sure we may think them in a different order, or with a slightly different emphasis. We may be a little more positive one day and a little less the next day. But, on balance, our thoughts tend to stay within a certain bandwidth. Neither too positive, nor too negative.
And how does this relate to birth?
Sadly, most of society has come to view birth as an ordeal. Something to get through. We have learned to fear it because 90% of the stories we hear are difficult stories about how looooong labor was, how excruciatingly painful, and how hard it was. Whether we like it or not, some of this ends up rubbing off on us, and we become anxious or fearful of our own experience.
And because our thoughts and fears shape our reality, if we believe birth is horribly painful, and something to be feared, our own experience is likely to be so. Especially if we have the same thoughts going through our mind over and over again on a regular basis.
Think the same thoughts day in and day out and you’ll quickly manifest whatever those thoughts are. Change your thinking, and you set in motion the possibilities for change.
The good news is this: both our negative thoughts AND our positive thoughts strive to become our reality. So, if we consciously focus our energy on all the wonderful things in our lives – if we concentrate on the beautiful, comfortable, calm birth we hope to have – we can also manifest this.
It just takes some practice and being mindful of our thoughts.
I remember the weeks before I was going to give birth, so many people tried to tell me that having a natural (drug-free) birth was impossible. They told me giving birth is horrifically hard and painful and that I’d be screaming for drugs within a couple hours of going into active labor. Thankfully, I had decided that birth did not have to be that way and I spent every day visualizing the calm and comfortable birth I was going to have.
I went into my birth super calm and with no fear, whatsoever, and BOOM! I had a perfect, easy birth that felt no more difficult than a challenging workout. I didn’t even once wish for drugs.
The opposite also holds true. Those people I knew who went into birth expecting pain, long labors and that they were not strong enough to “handle” it, all ended up with complicated, long and difficult births.
Our thoughts and beliefs are incredibly powerful.
One of the aspects of HypnoBirthing that I love so much, is the focus on positive thinking and the releasing of all those fears that hinder our thoughts from aligning with that positivity. We practice exercises that help us to uncover and release those fears so that they no longer play on our minds. This means we can relax in the weeks before the birth, trusting in our bodies, and with a deep knowing that everything is going to go well.
I am here to guide you through this process, so you too can go into your birth with a calm mind, feeling confident and powerful, and knowing that you have the ability to birth your baby in the way that you desire.
Trust in this and you will transform, not only your birth, but these precious weeks leading up to your birth.
